  • An Unforgettable Adventure: The Snowy Winter Wonderland this past winter!

Imagine the thrill of gliding down snow-covered slopes with the wind in your hair and the excitement of conquering the peaks., experienced by Uconnex Community adventurers. At Mount Buller, located in the heart of Victoria's Alpine region, the Uconnex Community experienced the joys of snow through this unforgettable trip. As this journey made our year, we wanted to share the experience of exploring the unforgettable adventures and incredible memories that were made that day. With our dedication to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities, we played a pivotal role in making this trip a reality. Our commitment to providing personalised support and tailoring experiences to the unique needs of each participant was brought to life in a snowy, white wonderland! SNOWY ADVENTURES AT MOUNT BULLER When the start of winter came along, the Uconnex community knew it marked the most awaited event of this year. To make the dreams of our participants a reality in a safe environment, we chose Mount Buller, which has been recognized as a disability-friendly destination, ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities. We encouraged safe play for everyone with the hard work and care of our service providers who joined us on the trip. With their extensive experience working with individuals of varying abilities, we were able to encourage the excitement and ensure their needs were still being met. From the start, our day at Mount Buller was filled with exciting activities. From walking through the crunchy yet soft snow, enjoying the views and food, and even building snowmen, there was something for everyone. The breath-taking views of snow-capped mountains and the crisp mountain air made every moment memorable for our participants, who couldnโ€™t resist capturing the moment for themselves! THE UNFORGETTABLE JOURNEY Before embarking on our snow adventure, our team was hard at work to plan the trip and coordinate details. We worked closely with each participant and their service providers to understand their specific requirements, preferences, and any necessary accommodations. At this stage, we could already see the excitement on their faces, and we have to say, we couldnโ€™t help but smile ourselves too. Now, we were all set and ready for our adventure at Mount Buller, and what better way to relive it than to share the story? 1. TO THE TOP! To begin the day, Uconnex arranged accessible transportation, ensuring that all participants could travel comfortably and safely to Mount Buller. Our accommodations were carefully selected to meet accessibility standards, ensuring that everyone had a comfortable and enjoyable journey. Meeting at the early crack of dawn, our support workers and participants took in the views of the sunset over the peaceful, scenic views till we were at our next stop. 2. GETTING IN GEAR Mount Bullerโ€™s snow-capped ranges meant we had to get in proper attire to ensure the safety of our participants. After getting in proper gear and checking that we were physically ready for the day, the Uconnex team had to take this opportunity to indulge in some of the famous cafes surrounding the area. From the steaming, comforting goodness of a cup of hot chocolate or some much needed caffeine, to the delicious spread of breakfast foods, everyone took their time to enjoy the food in the chilly weather. Taking this time to soak in the moment, anyone could see that there was excitement in the air to finally get to the top to see what we came for โ€“ snow! 3. SNOW, SLEDGES, AND SNOWMEN (*) Members' names have been changed to protect personal information (*) Members' names have been changed to protect personal information (*) Members' names have been changed to protect personal information After admiring the view at the top, and finally rejoicing about reaching the snow, it was time for the much-awaited activities. The beauty of Mount Buller is that it offers an inclusive experience for all by providing activities friendly to NDIS participants like sledging, instead of skiing. Hopping on a sled and gliding down the gentle slopes, our participants felt the rush of cold air against their face. For those who preferred to avoid that, they kept busy making snowmen, having snowball fights, and creating snow angels in true winter fashion. To top it off, some even got the opportunity to set up the company flag and a small camp to get the full view from the best spot of the mountain. 4. BACK TO REALITY Like all dreams must come to an end, this trip had to come to a close. As we packed up, there were some sad faces, but everyone couldnโ€™t deny that this trip, although short, had been nothing but magical. With the morningโ€™s excitement having turned into the eveningโ€™s joyful tiredness, everyone soaked in the feel of Mount Buller one last time as they headed down to the city, where they stopped for a quick dinner on the way. Our participants recalled having great fun, taken pictures, and felt empowered through their ability to take part in different activities. The NDIS is a lifeline for many Australians living with disabilities, and our trip to Mount Buller is a testament to the transformative power of this support system. It allowed individuals to experience the joy of adventure and the freedom of exploring new horizons, regardless of their physical abilities, in a safe, controlled environment where they were surrounded by professionals and their loved ones. With the Uconnex support workers and teamโ€™s dedication to the NDIS's commitment to inclusion, we were able to create cherished memories in the snow-covered paradise of Mount Buller. If you're a NDIS participant considering an adventure like this or want to be a part of an unforgettable and memorable experience, don't hesitate to reach out to us and be a part of our community, where we are committed to making every dream a reality. ย -------------------------------------------- Please contact Uconnex Community Services ย to reach more of our activities in the upcoming events. โ˜Ž๏ธ Hotline: 1800-865-106 ๐Ÿ“ฎ Email: support@uconnex.com.au We always support the community with the following services: ๐Ÿ‘‰ Supported Independent Living ๐Ÿ‘‰ Dementia Care ๐Ÿ‘‰ In-home Support ๐Ÿ‘‰ Support Coordination ( Level 2 and Level 3 ) ๐Ÿ‘‰ Community Nursing Care ๐Ÿ‘‰ Access To the NDIS ๐Ÿ‘‰ Day Programs and Holiday Programs ๐Ÿ‘‰ Interpreting and Translation ๐Ÿ‘‰ Access Community ๐Ÿ‘‰ High Intensive Care ๐Ÿ‘‰ Community Participation ๐Ÿ‘‰ Domestic Assistance We are always with you!

  • Uconnex Team Building 2023 - A Day Of Fun, Excitement And Competition

Uconnex Team Building 2023 - Day 1 In today's fast-paced business world, fostering strong team dynamics is crucial for success. A close-knit team that understands and collaborates with each other can achieve incredible results. That's why we as a company are actively investing in team bonding and building activities to enhance team cohesion and productivity. One such activity that really brought this idea to life was our " Uconnex Team Building 2023", which marked the beginning of our 2-day team building annual event. At this unforgettable event, our employees with a spirit of "One Team, One Dream" came together to engage in quizzes, games, and various fun activities aimed at strengthening the communities and the teams. The experience was simply amazing and brought the Uconnex team closer to each other than ever, where we learnt more about ourselves, our co-workers, and the companyโ€™s essence. But before we delve into the pictures and scoop, why donโ€™t we break down some of the benefits of having such an event on our corporate culture? The Essence of Fun At the heart of a successful company team bonding and building activity day is the element of fun. By incorporating quizzes and small fun activities into the event, employees can relax and enjoy themselves while also engaging with their colleagues on a deeper level. Whether it's solving brain teasers, participating in friendly competitions, or collaborating on group challenges, these activities not only foster a sense of enjoyment but also encourage team members to tap into their creative and problem-solving abilities. With the work that we do at Uconnex, connecting and interacting with people is at the core of our success. This time, instead of connecting with our clients, we connected with each other, and we have to say, we really need more of it! Take a peek at the wide smiles below! Understanding each other better at Uconnex Community. Another key aspect of these activity days is the opportunity they provide for employees to gain a better understanding of the company they work for. Through various team-building exercises and games, team members can uncover valuable knowledge about the organization's values, mission, and goals. This understanding enhances their connection to the company, instilling a sense of purpose and alignment with its objectives. The speeches by our CEO, COO and Directors genuinely connected with the team, and the community spirit was high as they ended the speeches on a high note that rang true to us all. The Joy of Winning One highlight of a Team-Building Activity Day is the opportunity to win a prize. Often, a trophy or recognition is awarded to the team that performs exceptionally well in the various activities. This prize not only serves as a symbol of achievement but also brings a sense of joy and fulfillment to the winners. Witnessing the happiness radiating from the victorious team further amplifies the positive atmosphere and encourages healthy competition among employees. That brings us to the exciting event of Day 1 โ€“ The Fun Quiz Challenge! The Fun Quiz At its core, this activity was designed to challenge our team members to use their knowledge of the company, the NDIS as a field, as well as some quick maths and skills in their usual life. While it sounds comprehensive, our teams were faster than expected, with each of them building bonds with each other and discovering hidden talents as the questions progressed. The winners really felt their spirits soar as they collected their trophy and put on their best smiles and pose forth camera as everyone else cheered on. Donโ€™t their smiles look infectious? Uconnexโ€™s "One Team One Dream," will always hold a special place in the hearts of everyone who took part in it. It was not only a wise decision for our board of members, but our community that we engage with on a daily basis. It fostered a positive environment, increased competition in a healthy way and enhanced our employeeโ€™s satisfaction. The prize-winning smiles and the strengthened team dynamics made it an event to look forward to again, because the other teams are already eyeing next yearโ€™s prize. If youโ€™re looking for a sign to take part in a similar activity, what are you waiting for? You could be the next owner of this special trophy! We will update information soon about the Uconnex Team Building 2023 program on day 2. ... Let's wait and see!

  • X MARKS THE SPOT โ€“ UCONNEX TEAM BUILDING 2023 - DAY 2

The treasure hunt was the centre piece of our team building event, and it sparked enthusiasm that could light up a city. If youโ€™ve ever taken part in a treasure hunt, you know the rules. The excitement, the competition, and all of it can get intense when youโ€™re racing against the clock, competing with other teams, and, of course, when thereโ€™s a prize involved. Welcome to Day 2 of our Team Building 2023 event, where the Uconnex Community took on the roles of detectives, pirates, and overall champions to take part in the treasure hunt that was specially made for us. The treasure hunt was the centre piece of our team building event, and it sparked enthusiasm that could light up a city. Teams were formed, each with a mix of departments, and a treasure map in hand. As everyone waited, they got to know each other a bit better and got to work trying to come up with ways to win. All teams were given one simple objective: To locate hidden treasures scattered throughout the venue. The hunt was not just about finding physical items; it was about discovering the hidden gems within the team and tapping into the skills of the team members to come together to form solutions and strategies to win. Here are some of the activities that made the treasure hunt exciting: Team-building, Team branding! What better way to let your competition know youโ€™re coming than to have special team names, outfits and personas! We had 5 teams: The Barbies โ€“ in Purple ( Team 1 ) Mixed Nuts โ€“ in Blue ( Team 2 ) Ring Ding โ€“ in Pink ( Team 3 ) Springfield โ€“ in Yellow ( Team 4 ) Go-Hard-or-Go-Home โ€“ in Green ( Team 5 ) Miracle โ€“ in Red ( Team 6 ) All our teams had their own digital personas and coloured raincoats to mark our identity. The teams really brought out their design skills to create the avatars, which embodied their strategy and personalities. Spot team purple donning their colours proudly! Riddle and Puzzle Solving Teams had to crack riddles to decipher clues leading to the next treasure. They had brain teasers and puzzles that tested out everyoneโ€™s problem-solving skills and collaboration, putting them under the stress of the clock. As tensions ran high, they had to remain cool and level-headed to figure out the solution to get them to the next level, and more importantly, the end โ€“ The Champion Trophy! Whereโ€™s the key? A whirlwind scavenger hunt added a sense of urgency and excitement to the day. It was a race infused with a touch of absurdity that kept everyone in stitches as they competed to win advantages in the hunt. Finding the key with a set of clues was almost like finding a needle in a haystack, but our teams were quick on their feet and quicker with their minds. But at the end, the one who would win would be the fastest, and that meant channelling their inner athlete to get to the key. Dance-Off A mission-required dance to break the ice and spread infectious enthusiasm was the best decision to add a touch of playfulness to the competitive edge of the treasure hunt. Peopleโ€™s dancing skills were put to the test under the microscopic gaze of the competing teams, but some moves were just too funny to be taken seriously. As the music kept playing, the teams got closer to the next event, which would put them under the spotlight again soon. Did anyone say โ€œcheeseโ€? To keep up the creative juices and get them flowing, a photography challenge was set up. Everyone had to master the art of selfies and angles to take just the right pictures that would make the hearts of the judges melt and hit the targets of the game. Some teams had the advantage of being in the midst of a social media pro, while others had closeted artists to support and direct their vision. Either way, the teams cooked up some amazing pictures and headed to their final step. Lights, camera, action! For the last creative activity, everyone channelled their inner drama stars to put together their acting skills. The tensions and stakes were at an all-time high at this point, and the pressure was slowly creeping up on some. But with the help, support and encouragement from their team members through cheering, our members put their best show on to claim the title of being the winners of the 2023 Uconnex Treasure Hunt. But this was not all โ€“ there was a secret code underlying all the answers, and only the ones sharp enough to figure it out were going to be the lucky ones to win the precious trophy. As the clock was ticking and everyone racked their brains in their teams to figure out, the pressure kept building, but no one cracked. Finally, one team stood out and realised the code, a word that binds them all together despite being individuals who all had their own diverse background and stories: "UCONNEX". As the clock ticked dangerously close to being up, teams regrouped after the treasure hunt, with their hands filled with the 'treasures' they had collected during the event. However, it was the ultimate treasure, the famous Uconnex Trophy, that everyone had their sights on. The winner's trophy was a shining symbol of teamwork, determination, and a touch of friendly rivalry. With bated breath, the results were announced, and the winning team took home the Champion Trophy for The Uconnex Team Buildling 2023 this year. The smiles on their faces were shining as the prestigious trophy itself, reflecting the joy of accomplishment and the bonds formed during this unforgettable adventure. Our second day with the treasure hunt in our team building event was more than just a day of fun; it was a testament to the treasure that is our company culture. It showcased the value of collaboration, problem-solving, and camaraderie, which are rare treasures in the corporate world. Just like a hidden treasure, a great company culture might not always be visible on the surface, but when uncovered, it can be a source of immense pride and joy. With that, we leave you with some food for thought: treasure these moments of unity and fun, for they are the gems that make company culture a true treasure, and they remind us that even in the busy world of business, there are opportunities to unearth camaraderie and unity. A job can be more than your income, it can be a place for community, laughter, and adventure. You know what, the second day of the Uconnex Team Building 2023 program is still very exciting. ... Wait and watch it!

  • Reflection on empowerment through the lens of a triathlete: A SELF-CARE AND MENTAL WELLBEING

A short retrospective of last year's workshop: Self-care & Mental Wellbeing Workshop Nov-2022 Looking back and expressing gratitude to those who have supported the mental health care program for those working at Uconnex Community. The question is: Do you want to join the Workshop to increase the activities of bringing joy, relaxation, and peace of mind in the spirit of "SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY, WE SUPPORT YOU " ? Do you think self-care can pave the road for empowerment? We certainly do, after our comprehensive and eye-opening workshop with Liam Twomey, who is an inspiration to us in more ways than one. In today's fast-paced and demanding world, taking care of our mental wellbeing is more important than ever. To prioritise this, we organised a Self-Care and Mental Wellbeing Workshop, featuring Liam Twomey, an aspiring Paralympic athlete and amazing speaker. As this year draws to a close, we reflected on the valuable insights and empowering experience from the workshop, remembering to emphasise the importance of self-care and mental wellbeing in our lives. THE POWER OF SELF-CARE AND MENTAL WELLBEING Taking care of ourselves should never be underestimated when it comes to maintaining good mental health. Self-care refers to the intentional actions we take to prioritize our physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing. It involves engaging in activities that bring us joy, relaxation, and peace of mind. By investing time and effort in self-care, we create a solid foundation for positive mental wellbeing. This can take different forms for everyone. Whether it be a simple action that you do every day, like going for a walk or journalling, or a bigger action like taking a well-deserved vacation, actively engaging in self-care is crucial to maintaining overall health, which allows you to be the best version of yourself. Moreover, self-care acts as a preventive measure against mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. It provides a sense of balance, allowing us to recharge and rejuvenate ourselves. When we practice self-care regularly, we become more resilient and better equipped to handle life's challenges. It enables us to focus on our goals, relationships, and overall happiness. This applies to both our employees and clients, as the message of mental health is universal, and at Uconnex, we encourage our community to explore it for themselves and facilitate much needed discussions around it to help de-stigmatise the issue. LIAM TWOMEY: A VOICE OF INSPIRATION AND EMPOWERMENT Our workshop featured Liam Twomey, a Paralympic athlete, and an exceptional speaker. Liam has proven time and again that physical limitations do not determine one's potential for success. Through his personal journey of overcoming obstacles and embracing an empowering mindset, he has become a role model for individuals striving to achieve their goals. Liam shared his experiences, highlighting the importance of self-care and mental wellbeing in his own life. He emphasised that cultivating a positive mindset, setting goals, and seeking support are crucial steps towards achieving our dreams. This was an inspiring experience for our attendees, who recalled facing difficult situations in their day-to-day work, and are tasked with helping those going through tough mental and physical challenges. KEY WORKSHOP TAKEAWAYS 1. NURTURING A POSITIVE MINDSET Maintaining a positive mindset is instrumental in promoting self-care and mental wellbeing. It involves cultivating an optimistic outlook, focusing on gratitude, and learning to let go of negative thoughts. By consciously choosing positive thoughts and actions, we can reshape our mindset and set ourselves up for success. While it may not be as easy to implement this in our daily life, taking the first step to actively try and nurture this mindset is essential to make it a habit that allows you to stay calm and positive even in the most difficult situations. 2. SETTING GOALS AND PRIORITISING SELF-CARE Setting goals gives us direction and purpose. It helps us stay motivated, boosts our self-confidence, and fuels personal growth. During the workshop, participants were encouraged to identify their goals and create actionable steps to achieve them. Additionally, Liam stressed the importance of prioritizing self-care while pursuing our aspirations - a key component of maintaining mental wellbeing in the long run. Sometimes, balancing a full-time career, work-life balance and other obligations can be overwhelming, so finding a bit of time to prioritise yourself amongst all the chaos can be challenging, but so much more rewarding in the long run. 3. SEEKING SUPPORT AND BUILDING CONNECTIONS No one should face life's challenges alone. Seeking support from friends, family, or professionals is vital in maintaining good mental health. The workshop emphasized the importance of building meaningful connections and surrounding oneself with a strong support network. Sharing experiences, seeking advice, and receiving encouragement from others can significantly contribute to our overall wellbeing. At Uconnex, we understand the importance of community, for both our clients and employees. This is why we encourage events and activities that act as bonding experiences, where everyone gets to share and learn from each other. 4. PRACTICING MINDFULNESS AND STRESS MANAGEMENT Mindfulness has gained recognition as an effective tool for managing stress and promoting mental wellbeing. Participants in the workshop explored various mindfulness techniques, such as meditation and deep breathing exercises. They learned how these practices can alleviate stress, enhance focus, and promote inner peace. Incorporating mindfulness into daily routines can have profound effects on our mental wellbeing. At the end of the day, learning to conquer your mind and thoughts can be the most powerful tool you can have. Reflecting on the Self-Care and Mental Wellbeing Workshop, it is evident that prioritizing self-care and mental wellbeing is vital for leading fulfilling lives. With Liam Twomey's inspiring presence and valuable insights, the workshopโ€™s attendees gained a deeper understanding of the importance of cultivating a positive mindset, setting goals, seeking support, and practicing mindfulness. By implementing these practices in our daily lives, we can empower ourselves to overcome challenges, enhance our mental wellbeing, and unlock our true potential, one day and step at a time Conclusion Self-care is an essential part of empowerment, and at Uconnex Community, we are committed to helping our members prioritize their wellbeing. We provide resources and support to help our members engage in activities that bring them joy, relaxation, and peace of mind. By taking care of ourselves, we can better contribute to our communities and achieve our goals. The past year was a time of great strides for Uconnex Community Services, as a dedicated provider of disability services. As we grew as a company in terms of our numbers, we also grew our vision and dream. We wanted to do more, be better; for our clients, the people out there who needed our services, and the wonderful team that make it happen every day. Mission Our mission is to empower individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives by providing comprehensive support and services through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). We are committed to promoting independence, inclusion, and equality for all participants, fostering a society that values and respects diversity. Vision Our vision is to be a leading NDIS provider, recognized for our excellence in delivering person-centered care and support. We strive to create a society where individuals with disabilities have equal opportunities, enabling them to reach their full potential and participate actively in all aspects of life. Through innovation, collaboration, and compassionate service, we aim to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of our participants and their families. The perfect opportunity to bring these points to the forefront arose during our mid-year conference, which focused on four critical areas: internal improvement, leadership, management, and a strategic future. The hosts are our key personnel's Uconnex - CEO and COO who lead the company with innovative ideas and huge passion to make people different in their quality of life. Through multiple discussions, there was a noteworthy focus on improving internal processes and performance across our 4 departments: HR: Investigated ways to up-skill our talent with the latest technologies at our disposal, maintaining and creating safe environments for our clients/employees. SIL: The Supported Independent Living initiative focused on ensuring that we can provide our clients with the freedom they deserve to make their own living choices. With our establishment of 20 new SIL houses, we progressed further with discussions about funding, training and awareness. SDA: Our Specialist Disability Accommodation project saw milestones this year with 3 big projects starting operations in Shepparton, Bendigo, and Melbourne. These houses are designed to providing a living space dedicated for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs in mind. Like the SIL project, we focused our energies into expanding the project to reach a larger clientele base, looking into different pathways and talent we could utilise. Leadership: Our CEO James (spot him below!) educated employees about different leadership tactics, including adopting flexible leadership styles, fostering productive employee relationships, conflict resolution, and effective coordination of resources. As the meeting drew to a close, we looked back at our achievements and opened the floor to sharing experiences. Part of what makes us stronger is not just our ability to work on our strategies but also celebrate the milestones that have been made so far. And boy, there really were many! At the end of the day, we at Uconnex are a well-fuelled machine because our employees, who are from a multitude of diverse backgrounds. • Valentine's Day with Dementia: How to Show Your Loved One You Care

Valentineโ€™s Day can be a difficult holiday for those with dementia and their loved ones. With the onset of dementia, traditional Valentineโ€™s Day gifts and activities may no longer be an option. However, it is still possible to show your loved one that you care, even with dementia. Whether itโ€™s Jack and Rose, who have been married for 40 years, or another couple living with dementia, this Valentineโ€™s Day can be a meaningful celebration of your love for each other. What is dementia? Dementia is an umbrella term that describes a group of neurological disorders that affect memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday activities. It is caused by physical changes in the brain and can be progressive, meaning it gets worse over time. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimerโ€™s disease, but there are other types such as Lewy Body Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, Vascular Dementia, and Mixed Dementia. Symptoms of dementia vary from person to person but can include memory loss, confusion, difficulty communicating, impaired judgment, and changes in personality. It can be difficult for family members to witness these changes in their loved ones, especially on special days like Valentineโ€™s Day. The changes that come with dementia Dementia can be a frightening and distressing condition for both the person living with it and their loved ones. It causes a range of changes that can often take the sufferer by surprise. For Jack and Rose, the changes began with seemingly small things such as forgetting appointments or burning food. As dementia progresses, it is not uncommon for people to experience memory loss, confusion, disorientation, difficulty communicating, problems making decisions and difficulty performing everyday tasks. These changes can be difficult to accept and can lead to feelings of anxiety and frustration. It is important for family members to be aware of these changes and to provide support for their loved one to ensure their safety and comfort. Understanding the signs of dementia is crucial in helping to reduce distress, increase confidence and ensure that the sufferer remains engaged and connected with the world around them. How to show your loved one you care? Spend time with them: Going for a walk, doing something together or just talking can make your partner feel loved and respected. Listen to them: Remember to listen patiently, as this is their way of expressing their feelings. Show patience and understanding: Show compassion and patience, especially during those times when they are confused and overwhelmed by their emotions. Take care of yourself: Make sure to take breaks and recharge so that you have the energy and patience to be there for your partner. Stay involved in their life: Keep doing the things that your partner loves, such as going to movies, reading books, playing board games or listening to music together. This will make them feel appreciated and loved. Care for their physical needs: Offer help with their day-to-day activities, like cooking, cleaning and bathing. This will give them a sense of security and make them feel cared for. Valentineโ€™s Day may be a difficult day for those living with dementia, but with a little love and care from you, it can still be an enjoyable one. Spend quality time with your loved one, show patience and understanding, and stay involved in their life โ€” these gestures will speak volumes about how much you truly care for them. And every time people ask Jack why he still want to stay with Rose, he just said that โ€œCause what kind of guy would I be If I was to leave when she needs me mostโ€.
